Re: The Never Ending Story
They were all blown backwards by the sheer force of a lightning bolt striking down, in the middle of the room. At the point it had struck, flames erupted, several meters high, and a dark figure appeared within them. After a second, the flames died down, revealing the figure to be...

"Vlad!" The voice was Ingrid's, "What's going on?"
"I was about to ask you the same. I'm here to talk to Mitchell."
The Grand High Vampire looked to the Master and then to Ingrid.

Re: The Never Ending Story
"Oh my God, Ingrid!" he hissed, staring at the monster still ripping at the cleaner. "What did you do?"
"Only what you were too much of a coward to do." She replied brusquely.
"I'm not a coward!" he snarled back.
"There was a prophecy, people were counting on you, you walked away." she snapped. "Sounds like a coward to me."

Re: The Never Ending Story
Vlad's eyes turned black and he bared his fangs at his sister, a low growl rolling in his throat.
Ingrid couldn't help but flinch, remembering the time her brother had left her to die.

Re: The Never Ending Story
She could still feel the scorch of the sun on her flesh... she shook herself.
"You're supposed to follow what's written in the book" she told him, a sharp edge to her voice, as if she were scolding him.
"It was written over two thousand years ago!" he yelled back.

Re: The Never Ending Story
"Exactly! Times have changed, and so will the vampires."
"Try telling them that," Ingrid laughed, nodding towards the area behind Vlad.

Re: The Never Ending Story
The Grand High Vampire spun around to see Wyndham, flanked by two other anonymous vampires.
"Try telling us what?" Vlad's counsel asked.
"Try telling us what?" Vlad's counsel asked.
Re: The Never Ending Story
"Um.." Vlad stuttered, "the good news!"
Vlad took Mitchell by the shoulders and smiled, "We are growing in numbers: Mitchell has agreed to join us."
Wyndham smiled wickedly, "This news is indeed good, grand high vampire, soon we will rule over the breathers as the Impaver professes."

Re: The Never Ending Story
"Heh." Vlad chuckled nervously. "Yeah. Great."
Everyone watched as the three latest vampires dropped down to the floor in sychronisation, and transformed into small, jet black, slightly furry blurs, which shot out of the window.
"Bats." Christa muttered inder her breath. "Of course. Because we all need just a bit more 'abnormal' in our lives."
Vlad let out a sigh of relief as his advisors flew away, then turned to Mitchell with a sheepish expression.

Re: The Never Ending Story
"Thanks for that," Mitchell exclaimed, "You do know Wyndham is a psychopath?"
"Yes, but I'm not. And he'll do whatever I say."
"Actually," Ingrid interrupted, "He'll do whatever the Predictum Impaver says. As soon as they work out you've been lying, you'll be a pile of dust."

Re: The Never Ending Story
"They can't hurt me." Vlad replied, though he sounded like he was trying to convince himself.
"Hold on!" cried the Doctor, taking the helm again and holding up his hands for silence. He pointed to Ingrid. "You. Predictum Impaver, big scary book, yes?" She nodded. "Good. What else do you know about it?"
Ingrid looked around, looking more than a little confused.
"Who is he?" she asked, jerking her thumb at the Doctor.

Re: The Never Ending Story
"He's the Doctor and he's clever." answered Mitchell simply.
"That's me," smiled the Doctor, "So, scary book, what do you know?"
Vlad answered this time. "It's the work of an ancient vampire leader, and the clans think it will bring the Age of Blood, but I think different."
The Doctor turned to face the young vampire. "You must be the chosen one then, the way big vampire boy was hanging on your every word. According to Mitchell, you're the only one who can open the book. which begs the question," The Timelord spun on his heels and pointed at Ingrid, "How did you use it to bring the Master back?"

Re: The Never Ending Story
"What makes you think I'll tell you?" she sneered. He just stared her down, fire in his eyes.
There was a long silence, before Ingrid sighed.
"His girlfriend can open it" she muttered, jerking a thumb at Vlad. "I don't know why, so don't ask" she added, forestalling the Doctor's next question.
Vlad looked murderous.
"What did you do to Erin?" he spat at his sister.
"Hypnotised her" she said simply. "I'm not in love with her, remember?"
The eyes of the Grand High Vampire flickered black with fury. Ingrid faced him, her own eyes turning scarlet.
The silent standoff continued for well over a minute, untill the building tension was shattered by the Doctor.
"Well that's all very... awkward" he said loudly, drawing everyone's attention. "But it still doesn't explain how you brought him back. Or why."

Re: The Never Ending Story
"I s'pose I might as well tell you, you'll be dead in a few minutes anyway," Ingrid smirked, "I was building an army; he looked like he could fight."
"Were?" asked the Doctor, "What made you stop?"
The scarlet-eyed vampire grinned smugly, "The army is complete. And it's time for the battle to commence."

Re: The Never Ending Story
Vlad gritted his teeth.
"Why are you doing this?" he asked her, almost pleading. "What is it you want?"
Ingrid just laughed.
"Power, little brother." she said with relish. "It's all anyone ever wanted, breather or not, from the beginning of time! And I'm about to have the most power since then." she cackled, rounding on Vlad. "And you're going to give it to me. Nothing personal."
And with that, she reached into her cape lighning-fast, and pulled out...

the Impaver. "Open it, Vlad. Tell them the truth. Or -"
"Or what?" the Chosen One shouted, fangs growing in his mouth.
"Or," Ingrid disappeared for a second and returned gripping the arm of a blond girl, "she dies." The scarlet-eyed vampire held the girl's head to one side, exposing her neck, and bared her fangs.

Re: The Never Ending Story
"Erin!" Vlad choked out, eyes wide.
"Vlad!" the girl cried back, then winced as Ingrid tightened her grip further.
The Chosen One took a step towards her, but Ingrid dropped her head lower in warning, so her fangs were grazing Erin's pulse point. He froze.
"Let her go!" he roared at his sister, his words echoing madly around the room. Flames began to lick up the sides of the walls.
"Open the book." she replied. Erin flinched as she felt the vampire's cold breath on her neck.
"Vlad, don't" she told him. The hand grasping her head tighened so that the long fingernails were cutting into her scalp.
The boy's eyes flickered between her face and the book, torn.
"Do it!" Ingrid snarled at him. "Now! Or she dies!"
He didn't hesitate.

Re: The Never Ending Story
The book flew open and Ingrid grabbed it and dropped the breather.
Turning to the final page, she attempted translating it with her basic knowledge of Aramaic.

... and together they shall lead us into a new era of Life and Death.
She shall be the flame to banish His Darkness, and He shall be the shroud to cover Her Light.
They shall rule together, and the day She embraces Darkness is the day He finds His true Power.
Ingrid's eyes widened. There was another Chosen One? A girl? She shall be the flame to banish His Darkness, and He shall be the shroud to cover Her Light.
They shall rule together, and the day She embraces Darkness is the day He finds His true Power.
"That's not possible..." she whispered, completely forgetting about the other presences in the room.
Re: The Never Ending Story
"What is?" asked the Doctor, "What's impossible?"
"Nothing," Muttered Ingrid, unsure of what to do with this information. She closed the book and looked over to her brother, who was hugging his breather girlfriend.
No...she couldn't be...could she? A breather leading the vampires?
Armed with this new knowledge but unsure of what to do with it, Ingrid grabbed the Master's shoulder in one hand, clutching the book in the other, and disappeared.

Re: The Never Ending Story
"Well that was anticlimactic" said the Doctor, after a long pause.
"Y'know, I don't remember Ingrid being that psychotic" Mitchell muttered darkly.
"She grew up" Vlad replied, helping Erin to her feet. "We all did."
"I can see that" he shot back, raising his eyebrows at his nephew and glancing at the blonde beside him.
"Uhh, this is Erin" he said quickly. "Erin, this is Mitchell, my uncle."
"Nice to meet you" she said nervously, holding out a hand. Mitchell smiled, and shook it.

Re: The Never Ending Story
"Now, what are we going to do about psycho-vamp and the Master?" asked Christa, who had awoken during Ingrid's outburst.
"Hang on," responded the Doctor, fiddling with his sonic screwdriver. "Ta-da!" he announced with a flourish. Another of the purple portals had opened. He motioned for the group to step through it and, when they did, they found themselves in a large, low-lit room with a column at it's centre, surrounded by buttons, switches and junk.

Re: The Never Ending Story
"Wow." Said Christa, nodding appreciatively.
Matt's mouth was hanging open in amazement.
"This is AWESOME!" he cried, moving around the room.
"Don't touch anything!" The Doctor warned him.
"Who are you talking to?" asked Erin, puzzled.
"What do you- wait..." he said, before smacking himself on the forehead. "Right! Human. Sorry."
"Okay..." she replied, confused. She watched as the Doctor grabbed a nearby screen and slid it towards himself. He glanced at the figures, then back at her, then at the figures again. "What?" she asked, self conscious.
"Are you sure?" he asked her seriously.
"Am I sure of what?" she asked, thoroughly confused now.
"That you're human, keep up!"
"Wha- Yes! Of course I'm sure!"
"The TARDIS doesn't think so." he said, showing her the screen. It looked even more complicated than aramaic.
"Then it's wrong!"
"The TARDIS is never wrong" he said, serious once more.
"Well I..." she began to argue, before it dawned on her. "Oh! I'm wearing stasis spray."
"Right." The Doctor mumbled, turning back to the screen. "That must be it."
But his gaze flitted back to her, unconvinced. The screen didn't say she was a vampire. It simply said 'unknown'. But that was impossible.

Re: The Never Ending Story
The room shook as the Doctor informed the group that he had locked on to Ingrid and the Master.
"Is this thing safe?!" screamed George, holding Nina and their son next to him.
"Perfectly," replied the Doctor as a red light started flashing on the console, "well, very." Everyone was flung forward as the Timelord flicked yet another switch, "OK, it's quite safe!"
After 5 minutes of this, the TARDIS came to a grinding stop and the Doctor leapt towards the doors. Swinging them open, he saw ...

Re: The Never Ending Story
The blackened remains of what had once been a castle, standing on a hill. Some of the walls were still standing, but most had crumbled, and were still blackened with soot.
Vlad came up behind the Doctor, a look of sadness on his face.
"Stokely" he murmured. Erin put a hand on his shoulder as he took in what had become of his old home.

Re: The Never Ending Story
2 figures could be seen in the distance: Ingrid and the Master. They seemed to be looking for something, and then they were gone.
The Doctor strode off in the direction of the vampiress.
"Isn't this a bit...risky?" whispered Erin to Vlad.
"Yes," he said, breaking out of his daze, "but I need to stop Ingrid."
From a bedroom window, a young blond girl watched as a small blue box appeared atop the hill and Vlad stepped out. She remembered the boy, he was Robin's best friend, but it seemed like there was else, something big, and it was just out of reach of her memories.

Re: The Never Ending Story
But Chloe Brannagh was a child prodigee. She refused to sit by and not know something, when she could find out for herself.
She stood up from her window, and opened her wardrobe, pulling out the well-used rope hidden near the back. Much had changed since Vlad had last been in Stokely, and it was now second nature to her to loop the rope arount the sturdy guttering outside her window, and climb down to the ground.

Re: The Never Ending Story
Climbing over mounds of rubble, the group searched for any sign of a vampire army. The smell of blood filled Adam's nostrils and he covered his face with a hand. "They're down there," he choked, pointing to the source of the scent, where a small handle could be made out in the rocks.
Re: The Never Ending Story
Mitchell bent down and grasped the handle, opening a diguised trapdoor to reveal a set of metal stairs.
"That's new" Vlad commented.
Most of the group made their way down into the tunnel, with the exception of Nina and Wolfie, who, after a short argument, had been convinced to stay in the TARDIS by George.

Re: The Never Ending Story
a cavernous cellar.
"The slime pit! She's living in the old slime pit!" Vlad felt like laughing.
"It's not a slime pit," spat Ryan, moving out of the shadows, "It's out base."
Erin looked at her brother hopefully, but he was lost to the blood.
"I wondered how long it would take you," smiled Ingrid, still lurking in the shadowy corners of the room, "you did well, and now you will die."
The group were suddenly surrounded by vampires, circling slowly towards their next meal with every step.

Re: The Never Ending Story
But they were interrupted, by the arrival of a blonde haired girl, who froze at the sight of the circle of vampires, alarm bells ringing in her head.
Re: The Never Ending Story
"Chloe!" Vlad cried, stepping forwards as the girl collapsed. The 5 vampires closest to the girl turned, sensing an easy meal.
"No!" Shouted Ingrid, "Leave her. She isn't a threat." Her army of vampettes resumed their approach, baring their fangs.
"So I'm a threat now," chirped Vlad, slightly impressed with himself.

Re: The Never Ending Story
"Trust me" she hissed. "That's not a good thing."
She clicked her fingers without even glancing at him, and a group of vampires surrounded him, blocking him off from the rest of the group. He hissed, and used his powers to force them back and away from him.
But by the time his line of vision was clear, Ingrid had frozen all of the non-vampires in the room, and Ryan was dragging his sister over to his sire.
"No!" he cried, lunging for Ryan, but he was too late. He reached Ingrid, who grabbed hold of Erin, unfreezing her. She looked around wildly, startled, and saw who was holding her. Her eyes widened,just in time to see Ingrid hiss to her brother;
"I will not be ruled by a breather!"
And with that, she sunk her fangs into Erin's neck.

Re: The Never Ending Story
Before the first drop of blood had hit to the floor, Vlad threw his arms forward and Ingrid's head cracked against a wall.
"Erin? Please, Erin, speak to me," the Grand High Vampire held the girl in his lap, begging her to be alright.

Re: The Never Ending Story
She opened her eyes to meet his.
"Erin?" he murmered, far paler than usual. "Are you ok?"
She smiled crookedly at him.
"Yeah" she said, attempting to get up. Then a wave of dizziness hit her, and she collapsed back down. Vlad caught her. "No." she muttered, moving her hand to stem the flow of blood from her neck.
Ingrid had ruptured an artery.
Vlad watched helplessly as she grew paler, and desperately tried to help her stop the blood from pouring from her neck. His eyes were black with hunger, but he ignored the urge to drink, to focussed on the girl dying in his arms.
"Help me!" he called to Mitchell and Adam. Mitchell was by his side instantly, but Adam seemed to be finding the hunger hard to cope with, his eyes dark and his fangs protruding. He restrained himself, though, and moved over to them.
"What can we do?" he asked. Vlad didn't answer. He didn't know himself.

Re: The Never Ending Story
He carried Ingrid's limp body over to Erin and bit into the vampire's arm, letting the blood flow into Erin's mouth.
"No," screamed Vlad, "you can't."
"It's either this or she dies." Mitchell countered. Vlad slumped, giving in to Mitchell's plan and watching as his sister's blood flowed through his girlfriend's body.

Re: The Never Ending Story
It didn't take long.
Just as the large grandfather clock in the corner of the cave began to chime out the beginning of a new day, Erin awoke with a start, feeling strange. Her mouth was dry, like she had been asleep a long time, and she had an oddly metallic, but not unpleasant, taste on her tongue. Her eyes opened slowly, and she looked around, without moving her head. She saw the rocky ceiling, making out far more of the detail on the stalactites than she thought she should be able to, in the darkness. She was lying on Vlad's lap, her head pillowed on his chest, and she could smell more of the metallic substance on his shirt.
She raised her eyes to look at his face, and was astonished to find him staring at the opposite wall, looking, for the first time since she had met him, utterly defeated. She sat up, and his eyes darted to her face. He seemed to be searching for something in her own eyes, and she could tell that he was scared he would not find it.
"What's wrong?" she asked him, her voice dryer than usual. She cleared her throat.
He just looked at her as the last chimes of the clock echoed into silence, unsure what to say.

Vlad opened his mouth to speak, but was interrupted by the Doctor talking to himself.
"Vampires! You never get boring. Seriously," he nudged Vlad on the shoulder, but got no response, "they could make a TV series out of this: Teenage Vampires. Not exactly a catchy title though, but we could work on that later."
"My girlfriend's just been turned into a vampire and you're talking about television?!" Vlad blurted, turning his head towards the bumbling Timelord.
"I was just trying to lighten the mood. Rule 27: Never knowingly be serious."

Re: The Never Ending Story
Erin froze.
"What did you say?" she breathed.
Vlad turned to her, eyes wide, watching for her reaction.
Her expression became distant as she tried to take it in. She was a vampire? All she remembered was being grabbed by Ingrid...
Of course, death had always been a danger of living with vampires, but she had never imagined that she would become one of them!
It was obvious now she knew. She could feel the strange emptiness in her chest, a result of her lack of heartbeat. Her throat burned with thirst.
Her eyes filled with tears at the realisation, and Vlad held her close, stroking her hair soothingly as she sobbed, her tears mingling with her blood on his shirt.

Re: The Never Ending Story
"Chloe," shouted Mrs Brannagh from the kitchen, "Chloe, darling, dinner's ready." Hearing no response, she climbed the stairs to her daughter's room. "Chloe?" she asked, opening the girl's bedroom door. Seeing the empty room and open window, Mrs Brannagh called for her husband.
"Where is she?" asked Chloe's father.
"Take a guess," his wife replied, motioning to the castle in the distance.
Ever since Mr. Count and his family left, her daughter had been oddly transfixed by that crumbling wreck; when it burned she had been distraught, but she had never been able to tell them why exactly.
"Oh, this is getting ridiculous. Don't worry, I'll go and get her now." Mr Brannagh left in his van, heading for the remains of the castle he so hated.

Re: The Never Ending Story
Meanwhile, Chloe was waking up.
She stirred, groaning, and sat up, rubbing her head.
Looking around, she took in the scene. There were several unconscious people around the edges of the room, one of them she recognised. Ingrid. Everyone else was clustered around Vlad, who was crouched on the floor clutching at a girl who was sobbing.
It was a morbid enough scene, without the pool of blood around their feet.

"What's going on?" she asked no-one in particular, rubbing her head.
The crying girl turned and stared at her. As the smell of blood filled her head, Erin's eyes turned black and fangs appeared in her mouth.
Chloe's eyes grew wide as she realised what was happening. She could finally remember who Vlad was, and why she had been forced to forget.

Re: The Never Ending Story
She scrambled backwards, away from the girl with the fangs.
"Why isn't she blacking out?" a tall, black-haired man asked Vlad.
"I don't know!" he cried, grabbing the girl's arm. She started at his touch, and turned to him, her eyes turning back to normal and a look of horror on her face.
"Vlad?" Chloe whispered. He turned to look at her. "Why?" she asked simply.

Re: The Never Ending Story
"I'm sorry, Chloe, but things got big, really big, and I couldn't stop them." His eyes were filled with regret as he turned back to Erin, holding her into his chest.
In the corner of the room, Ingrid's eyes opened slowly and pain filled her body.

Re: The Never Ending Story
She looked over to the huddle around her brother and Erin. Seeing the blood drenching the floor, and noticing the sharp ache in her arm where she had been cut, she realised what had happened.
Erin was a vampire now; the prophecy couldn't be true.
She had won.
She felt her smirk widen, and began to laugh.

Re: The Never Ending Story
The Doctor turned to face the vampiress, "Something funny? because as far as I can tell you killed an innocent girl and ordered the death of everyone else in this room." His voice was calm, if slightly curt.
"Innocent?" Ingrid scoffed, "She was going to take my throne!" She tried to stand, but collapsed in pain.

Re: The Never Ending Story
"What the hell are you talking about?" Vlad snarled, rounding on his sister. She stared at him, surprised.
"You've not read the last page" she murmured.
"Of course I haven't!" he snarled. "I can't read Aramaic, and I've not seen Bertrand for weeks!"
She began to laugh again, but stopped quickly, hissing at the pain it caused her.
The Doctor stood over her, expression thunderous.
"I'm really not seeing what's so amusing here" he said icily.
"You have no idea" she told him, a dark smirk on her face.

Re: The Never Ending Story
"Gah!" He shouted, raising his arms and pacing across the room.
It was Erin who spoke next, "Ingrid, please, what does it say?" She stood and walked over to her would-be killer.
"Oh, wouldn't you like to know," laughed Ingrid, "Vlad's little girlfriend, Worming your way into our lives."
